As the 2018 as well as the semester begins to come to an end, Broadcast Tech is coming to an end for me as well. During the class, there were things I did and didn't enjoy about it. Some things about the class were the projects and the creative freedom we were given. I find that I tend to do better when I'm given room to improvise and come up with my own ideas. One thing that I didn't quite enjoy this year was the travel restrictions. It was mainly due to school rules, but at the beginning of the year we weren't able to travel to classes for projects such as interviews. I took Intro to Media last year and we had slightly more freedom, so I expected the same amount of freedom this year in Broadcast Tech. I think one of my favorite projects this year, although I may have not done a great job on it, was the six word story. I did this project last year as well, and I enjoy seeing how I can compact a strong message into only six words. I gained more interest in this class as time went on. I mostly enjoyed learning how filming really works, and learning about the more intricate details of it. It gave me more of an insight and it gave me more of an appreciation and respect for people who can create quality films. I wouldn't change a single thing about this class.

For my Broadcast Tech class, I filmed a video for a six word story. The six word story i decided to use was "One scar, a lifetime of fear" This story symbolizes my fear of cats. It may sound silly, but I don't have the greatest history with cats. I have a few long lasting wounds from them, but this story focused on the most obvious of them. My first plan was to go to my friend Jay's house to use his cat Bates to show where the scar came from, but he was busy with wrestling. I have asked a few other friends who I believe have cats. I asked my friend Madalene. I didn't receive any follow through from her. Eventually, I had to scrap the idea and think of a new story. Luckily, I had a few backup ideas and I chose one of those. Some of the footage I took in the ceramics room as practice worked nicely as the video for my story.
Today during class, I was researching Six Word Stories and Ernest Hemingway. I learned more about Ernest's famous six word story " For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn". and the impact six word stories can have in general. Through Hemingway's famous six word story, I learned through only a few short words, a very dark idea can be introduced. But the opposite is also true. After further research, I learned that six word stories can bring about positive ideas as well without saying anything directly. Such as "Missed my plane, caught her eye" by Tim Sevenhuysen on Twitter. This short story could have many meanings or interpretations, like most Six Word Stories, but the main thought of the story seems to be love. Six word stories are always good for getting a message across in a way that can be interpreted in many ways. They can be happy, sad, or deep. There is hardly any right or wrong, as long as it's six words. There are also other famous Six word stories by authors such as "As she fell, her mind wandered" by Rebecca Miller. A mere six words can have up to a thousand meanings. There is a hashtag for six word stories on Twitter that can help introduce six word stories. And another website describing Ernest Hemingway and his famous story.Over the past few weeks, I have been working with professional video cameras and editing. I have learned new camera techniques such as white balancing, and ways to get wide, medium, tight, and extreme tight shots. I learned the importance of certain shots too. With wide shots, the location is established. With medium shots, the main focus of the shot is established. And with tight and extreme tight shots, the action of the focus is revealed. Also, certain techniques that stuck with me were white-balancing and adjusting my tripod. With white balancing, you can focus on a white surface to give the rest of the shot better focus. Also, adjusting the tripod that your camera is on can give your shot better positioning. While I enjoyed the camera work, I feel as though I was more taken with editing. With editing, I learned how to adjust audio, add transitions in between shots, and color balance the shots to make everything look better. With transitions, you can make the shift between shots more smooth. You can also add transitions between bits of audio to make the sound change between shots less abrupt. Color balancing is also a very important techniques to know. It can be used to make the colors more accurate and look better on screen.
In Broadcast Technology, for the last few days, we've been working in the film studio, in which I learned how to make a proper production. One of the main things I learned was the importance of proper sound and lighting. Without proper sound, it would be hard to hear the anchors. And if there isn't enough volume they won't be heard clearly. And lighting can completely change someone's appearance. If it's too dark, the anchors won't be visible. And if the lighting is too bright then it could ruin their completion on camera.I began to learn to use film technology. I learned how to properly use a teleprompter. I also now know how to get a good angle on a video camera. I can now properly be a director as well. The class has taught me many interesting things so far and I'm excited to learn even more.I made an iMovie talking about myself. Who I am as a person, my interests, hobbies, and other things about me. It goes over my interests and hobbies, even though there isn't much in that category. All of my pictures I either took myself or they were sent to me from friends or family. I probably have more pictures of my dog Bailey than I do of anything else. I think some of the photos I took where pretty good. Even though I don't have an iPhone, my camera is still moderately okay. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video, I tried :).
In my most recent project, I had to interview an expert in a certain field. Emily Spina and I decided to interview Chef Dalton, the Food and Nutrition teacher. We started with trying to find a good time to interview her. There was a food truck event going on in her classroom in which teachers were invited to come in and try dishes the students made, so we decided to go in and record some B-Roll during the event so we can have a recording of some of the things she does. We conducted the interview during seminar right after that period. We made sure to ask her about her career in cooking, what sparked her interest, and how she ended up becoming a teacher. Emily asked the questions and I worked with the camera. I also filmed the majority of the B-Roll. With the first interview, we had Chef Dalton in the wrong third. So we had to find a time to go in and re record the interview. Emily had to finish a test during seminar so I had to improvise and find somebody else to help me redo the interview.
